The Sports pro-Disabled Association is a not for profit organization having its roots in various Roman Rotary Clubs, whose purpose is to promote sports events in order to raise money for charitable efforts, especially those involving persons who are unfortunately unable to participate in sports activities.

Each year we organize a solidarity event which is a tennis tournament, the proceeds from which are distributed for the most part to further the construction of a center in Keren (a small village in Eritrea not far from Asmara) which makes, re-adapts and fits prostheses for children affected by polio and young adults who have lost limbs due to land mines left from the civil war. Funds are also given to local Roman charities, as can be seen from the documentation disposable on the “Journal” of the Association (click on “Notiziario”, only in Italian for now).
The tennis tournament culminates in a Gala Dinner, where prizes are awarded to the winning players and where tickets are sold for the raffle of many gifts donated to the Association for this purpose by a lot of sponsors enlisted and whose trademarks are visible on the web site.

Last years the event was supported by the cooperation of Eritrea and Ethiopian Embassy, by the Ambassadors and representatives of the Swiss Embassy, Monaco, Jugoslavia and of MAE (Minister of Foreign Affairs) by the Israel Ambassador Yehuda Millo and the Representative of the Palestinian Authorities Mr Nimer Hammad.

The Association is now working to restructure Hal Hal Hospital as kindly requested by Sister Annamaria Soriolo, from the Catholic Eparchy. Hal Hal Hospital is a Catholic Hospital giving hospitality to a lot of people and children and which needs a strong intervention on roof and walls. The Association sent 3 volunteers, thanks to Distal – Eritrean Airlines, they are Maria Chiara Panciera, Ferdinando Panciera, Gaia Crosio M.D. in order to control personally the situation of the Hospital (structure, medical needs). Sister Annamaria Soriolo of the Eparchy of Keren, during her recent visit in Rome, which has been possible thanks to the kind offer of Lufthansa, asked for the Association's help to restructure it and on the other side to help poor little children round there. As far this aim the Association has just sent a container with two wheel-chairs for disabled persons and a lot of powdered-milk for children of the neighbor villages so as biscuits, pasta, floor and so on.
